Surrealist Photo

For this project I had some trouble thinking of a really creative idea to work with. I don't think that it was the time allotted to complete it, I think that it was more so the timing. It seemed as if my brain just went into reserve mode or something when it cam down to this project, lol. Not sure if it was the pressure from finals week or just creative block. Anyhow, my original idea to create a surreal forest scene was changed to the following:

I was inspired to do this piece through the works of Tokohiro Satoh and Hiroshi Sugimoto. I love Tokohiro's use of subtle light in his images and Hiroshi's use of architecture. So I combined the two concepts together to create a surreal scene of a city occupied by these contrasting stick figures. I reaaly thought Tokohiro's leaping pair was interesting and i've always  admired the simplicity and interesting things you can do with drawing stick figures, so i incorporated this idea into the photo.

Surrealist Artist

After reviewing the work from the list of Artists, the ones that I really like are Tokohiro Satoh, Olivia Parker, Rene Magritte and Hiroshi Sugimoto.

I really like Tokohiro's use of black and white, contrast and the artistic use of the lighting his photographs. His photographs were some of the best to me, just due to his concepts of taking these great photos of a scenery thats very calming and pleasant and adds these vivid hints of light.

Oliva Parker's work I find very subtle, yet abstract to some degree with her use of subjects.

I like her work because it isn't disturbing as some of the others and her eye for detail and texture with many of her photos.

Rene Magritte has a sense of humor with some of her photos. i really enjoy her use of color and the concepts for a lot of her surreal photos

Hiroshi Sugimoto seems to use a lot shapes and architectural scenes for his photos, which I like. I really think his use of shapes and the relationships between shapes are interesting.

My Panorama Photo

After working for some weeks on my panorama I decided to go with these compilation of images of the stairway in an underground parking structure on campus. I was often intrigued by the lighting the sun cast on them, from the darkest part of the bottom level to the lightest light as you climb the stairway to the most upper level. So what I did, is took several pictures with every step that I took starting on the ground level and climbing the stairs to the top level.

I really like the texture of the concrete and stairs, therefore I incorporated the pavement of space before the stairs. The white light was very intriguing to me and mysterious... symbolic and felt very spiritual, so to emphasize this I positioned the stairway at the bottom of the page and left a huge portion of white space at the top. I could have centered it but I really wanted to convey the idea of the white light at the top with hopes that it will touch people and get them to think as it did me. I could have also cut off the concrete space at the bottom by bringing it all the way to the end of the page and flatting it, but I really admired the movement of the roundness and how it pulls you up with the stairs.

I used adjustments such as cloning and healing to clean up some of the trash that was on the ground. I also adjusted the contrast and transformed the stairway to look continuous because the merge had flattened some areas.

Four Fotos

Magazines
Before

This is a photo that I took of the underneath edge of my living room table. I used curves to manipulate the frame of the table and background and to alter the contrast from the fore magazine with the ones in the back. I used the cropping tool to create a better composition.

Night at the Park
Before

This photograph was taken at a park at night using a slow shutter speed. It reminds me of a painting, so I just played around with the tones by dodging and burning certain areas to give it more depth. I noticed some of the shadows created symbols of the cross and I thought it was very interesting, so I burned those shadows to make the illusions stand out.

I Spy

This is one of my spy photos that was taken at night inside of my living room. The picture looks out of my patio door at the night light with it's reflection bouncing off of the mirror on the wall to the left.  I thought that it was very mysterious looking and I like the relationship between the actual focal point and its reflection. It looks like there's a burning fire almost, so to create more of this feel, I played with the levels and curves and cropped out some of the outer walls.

Before

This photo is a one of my favorites. It was taken at night with a slow shutter speed of cars moving along a street with camera motion as well. It was interesting, the image it created. Reminds me of an isolate  place, where a river flows through on a dark and stormy night. The noise created these beautiful streaks that resemble rain. To enhance my concept, I enhanced the circular object in the middle because it looks as if it's a moon. I used the cloning and healing tools for the clouds and the dodge and burn tools blend the blue more at the bottom.

I changed my Album layout

The way that I work, is that I usually start with with something (an idea) then once I have that Idea.. I turn it into something different in order to come up with what I like.  Below is a good example of my process. I started with one idea for an album cover, then I took it and changed it all around to get something that works for me. Feel free to comment on which you think works best.

CD Cover Meme

For my first assignment I had to create a CD Meme Cover. It was pretty fun and interesting how the band name, album name and CD cover came together. Here is my finished product.
